Ford Cortina April 30, 2008

Ford Cortina was my dad’s favourite ride. OK, so it got broken into everyweek and started with a screwdriver, but it was the height of cool back then.
Nowadays we’ve got the Ford Focus etc. but the Cortina and of course the Granada, were icons of the 70s/early 80s.

Just gorgeous looking and fast in the corners. I think this car has 300hp-something.
Just amazing with the Mugen vented bonnets which also reduce engine temps.

I just took delivery of ones of these so I’m a bit biased.

It’s super comfy to drive, lots of space, lovely black interior, 4 cup holders up front and 1 big one at the back.
It’s a bit rolly polly in the corners but once you get used to it and learn how to utilise the 4-wheel drive, it’s nearly as fast as a saloon car.
Ride again, is amazing, really comfortable and it’s a real relaxing drive….once you finish your journey you feel very relaxed.
Acceleration awesome also – 280hp. Really smooth gear box.
Fantastic vision too for driving. I really recommend but the depreciation is awful so try and get one with most of the depreciation gone.

Forget the older Skylines….this is the daddy.
4-wheel steering
FWD,RWD and 4WD computerised switching system to give you the best of all drive trains
tuneable to 1400hp
The standard Skyline GTR is 280hp. Forget that, that’s just for legal Jap purposes. The car can be easily chipped to 320hp and push to 350hp with intercooler/exhaust modification.
Thereafter turbo charger and engine rebuild are required for higher horsepower on the RB26 block.
Essentially it switches between RWD (best for corner exit), FWD (best for corner entry) and 4WD (best for through the corner)….giving it the best of all cars drivetrain systems.
4-wheel steering helps also, but many people like to remove that to reduce weight and keep it a true 2-wheel steering car.

Well, this car looks just excellent.
It’s got amazing sweeping lines and the chassis is very stiff for supreme handling.
I hear the ride is hard, I checked one out in the showroom and there is very little room inside too, so maybe a challenge for big guys like me.
But it looks greeeeeat!
